Leveraging CA World for social good
Transforming 4,000+ customers, partners and speakers into philanthropists.
At CA Technologies, we spend months preparing for CA World. We plan and host more than 600 sessions, designed to boost attendees’ knowledge of the application economy and bolster their technical expertise. Our executives and invited guests draft keynote speeches to share news about emerging issues and trends.
Most of all, we work to ensure that CA World inspires, informs and excites the more than 4,000 customers, partners and speakers who attend.
We’re always thinking about how we can leverage our business for social good. Through year-round programs and partnerships, we increase STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) educational opportunities for high-risk youth, contribute to the work of educational nonprofits around the world, and advocate for greater gender diversity in the tech field.
We view CA World as an amazing opportunity to transform the 4,000 attendees into philanthropists, thereby advancing our commitment to supporting the next generation of IT leaders.
For example, to thank the Las Vegas area for hosting CA World ’16, we will fund a $100,000 donation to DonorsChoose.org in support of STEM-related teacher requests at high-need schools in the Las Vegas area. This gift, which will help bring STEM education to life for thousands of students, is being made in recognition of those participating in two bike events: CEO Mike Gregoire’s annual Lake Mead ride, and a virtual cycling event with Trek at CA World.
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers can post requests, and individuals can give to projects of their choice. Through the CA Technologies Double Your Impact STEM Campaign, and last year’s CA World donation, CA has already assisted more than 25,000 students in high-need schools.
As part of our CSR efforts, CA Technologies is committed to strengthening the STEM pipeline for women and girls. CA World attendees will gather on Wednesday, November 16 for a women’s forum, hosted by Chief Marketing Officer Lauren Flaherty. Attendees will network, meet others in the field, and discuss how to bolster recruitment and retention of women in the tech workforce.
In honor of this event, CA will make a $50,000 donation to Girls Who Code, a nonprofit that works to inspire, educate, equip and motivate girls with the computing skills they need to pursue 21st century opportunities. Attendees will be encouraged to help allocate the funding; each will receive a $100 donor card and asked to choose which one of four Girls Who Code growth programs they would like to receive the support.
Our commitment to leveraging CA World for social impact extends beyond the conference. Chief Technology Officer Otto Berkes, along with other members of the CTO team, will run the Rock’N’Roll Las Vegas 10K race Sunday, November 13, to help kickoff CA World. In recognition of this run, CA Technologies will make a $10,000 contribution to Code.org, a nonprofit committed to increasing access to computer science to underserved populations.
This gift underscores Berkes’ commitment to expanding coding opportunities for women and underrepresented students of color, from supporting the company’s recent Guppy Tank App Challenge, to hosting a STEM career workshop for middle school girls, to serving as a member of the University of Vermont’s STEM leadership council.
We’re looking forward to a successful CA World ’16 – one that is enriching, inspiring and educational; not just for the attendees, but for all the young people whose lives will be changed through these contributions to DonorsChoose.org, Girls Who Code and Code.org.
